President Jokowi Inaugurated the Operation of Kalibaru Container Terminal, Main Port of Tanjung Priok (NPCT1)
Jakarta, September 13, 2016 – On Tuesday, September 13, 2016, President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, inaugurates the Operation of Kalibaru Container Terminal, Main Port of Tanjung Priok (New Priok Container Terminal One – NPCT1). Together with President Jokowi, the Inauguration also attended by Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Darmin Nasution and Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi.
NPCT1 has been commercially operated on August 18, 2016 and it’s operated by a Joint Venture (JV) Company between IPC TPK and a Consortium of Mitsui-PSA. With the presence of NPCT1, the capacity of container terminals in Tanjung Priok increases to 1.5 million TEUs/year.
Kalibaru Terminal is built in order to gradually developing the capacity to anticipate the growth of the traffic for cargoes and containers in Tanjung Priok Port. Container handling capacity of Port of Tanjung Priok, which initially can handle around 5 million TEUs/year in Y2009-2010, shall be managed in a short period of time by doing the configuration in adding equipments as well as structuring the operational pattern, so to be able to handle 7 million TEUs/year. In long-term, total capacity of Tanjung Priok Port will increase to 11.5 million TEUs/year after the development of all Kalibaru Terminal has been completed.
To ensure the readiness of the operational, NPCT1 has carried out a number of Trial Operation for International Shipments in NPCT1, such as MV. Uni Perfect which did the loading-unloading for 425 boxes on August 3, 2016; MV. Leo Prime which loaded-unloaded 343 boxes on July 2, 2016 also MV. Sinar Sumba which loaded-unloaded 783 boxes on May 25, 2016. All those 3 (three) Trials are as a follow up of Trial Operation for Domestic Shipment that been carried out on January 28, 2016 which serving MV.Strait Mas in loading-unloading 20 boxes.
The commercial operation of NPCT1 is supported by operational readiness of container terminals, either in terms of infrastructure, suprastructure and information system at the Gate, also the synchronization of service process between the Terminal with Government Agencies such as Customs and Quarantine, as well as with Business People in Logistics and Owner of the goods.
The Inauguration also attended by the partners of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero)/IPC through PT IPC TPK, in the operation of Kalibaru Container Terminal that consists of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (“Mitsui”), Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (“NYK Line”) and PSA International Pte Ltd (“PSA”) that also the allianse of Terminal Operator and International Shipping. The Governor of DKI Jakarta, represented by Mr. Djarot Saiful Hidayat, also attends the Inauguration, including Commissioners of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II (Persero), Head of Customs and Excise Main Office of Tanjung Priok, representative of Government’s Institutions, Associations of Service Users and Stakeholders in Tanjung Priok Port.
NPCT1 has an area of approx. 32 Ha with capacity of 1.5 million TEUs per year. With current total length of Quay of 450 meters (850 meters by the end of Y2016) and depth of -14 meters LWS (gradually be dredged to -20 meters LWS), NPCT1 is projected to serve container vessels with capacity of 13,000 – 15,000 TEUs with weight above 150 DWT.
As part of Kalibaru Port, NPCT1 is prepared to serve the latest generation of Container Vessels. NPCT1 is the first Container Terminal in the development of Phase 1A of Kalibaru Terminal that consists of 3 (three) Container Terminal and 2 (two) Product Terminal. The development of Phase 2 of Kalibaru Terminal shall be done after the operation of Phase 1 of Kalibaru Terminal. At the time when whole project has completed, there will be total of 7 (seven) Container Terminals and 2 (two) Product Terminal with supporting area of total 411 Ha.
NPCT1 is part of IPC to support the Nawa Cita program that become Government’s Manual to increase people’s productivity and competitiveness in the International Market, so Indonesian People can move forward and arise together with other Asian countries. On the other hand, NPCT1 as part of Kalibaru Terminal, is also expected to encourage the economic independence by driving the port sector and the economy as well as to strengthen Indonesia’s identity as a Maritime Country.

We also would like to express our gratitude to Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, not to mention other related Ministries, as well as Associations, Service Users and all Parties that been supporting the Company in development and operation of this Terminal. For our Service Users, NPCT1 is ready to serve the needs of Port Services, particularly for Container Cargoes. By the presence of NPCT1, we expect to expedite the flow of vessels and goods in Domestic and International Trade. In the future, we will develop the capacity, connectivity and integration of Maritime Logistics. We do hope that Kalibaru Container Terminal can also strengthen the logistics chain in Indonesia also in the World, as well as to be able to strengthen Indonesia in the World’s competitiveness and trading”, said Director of IPC, Elvyn G. Masassya.
