Hosting Reefer Talk, NPCT1 and Maersk Engage Commodity Companies to Explore Indonesia’s Growing Cold Chain Market

June, 3rd 2026

New Priok Container Terminal One (NPCT1), in collaboration with Maersk — one of the world’s largest shipping lines and a strategic partner of NPCT1 — recently hosted Reefer Talk, bringing together representatives from 18 companies across various commodity sectors, ranging from meat, dairy, pharmaceuticals, batteries, seafood, ice cream, to chocolate, to explore business opportunities and discuss how Indonesia’s significant cold chain potential can be further maximized through collaboration, technology, and operational excellence.

NPCT1 President Director Takayuki Hori highlighted the strong partnership between NPCT1 and Maersk in delivering reliable and integrated reefer solutions. He shared that within ten years of operation, NPCT1 has grown to become the second-largest international container terminal in Jakarta and operates the largest reefer facility in the city, supported by 990 reefer plugs, robust monitoring systems, first-class infrastructure, and 24/7 professional technical support. Since 2016, NPCT1 has consistently focused on operational excellence, reliability, and innovation to ensure safe and seamless reefer handling.

Maersk SEA Cold Chain Product Manager Debbie Torre emphasized that cold chain requires collaboration across the entire ecosystem. Beyond ocean transportation, Maersk’s reefer solutions are supported by operations, equipment, customer experience, and commercial teams working together to deliver service excellence. She also highlighted the importance of mutual learning, recognizing participants as experts in their respective commodities while encouraging the exchange of operational insights, industry dynamics, and technological developments shaping the future of cold chain logistics.

The event featured presentations from both NPCT1 and Maersk covering a broad spectrum of cold chain topics. NPCT1 introduced its facilities and service capabilities, including its reefer platforms, while Maersk’s cold chain, equipment, and customer experience teams shared insights on reefer container types, pre-trip inspection processes, to its Remote Container Management (RCM) — Captain Peter capability, which enables greater visibility and control over perishable cargo conditions. Supported by satellite connectivity across more than 400 vessels and over 360,000 RCM-enabled reefer containers, the system allows continuous monitoring to help ensure cargo integrity throughout the shipping journey. Participants also had the opportunity to deepen discussions on handling practices, operational considerations, and broader industry best practices.

The session also featured a dedicated discussion led by NPCT1 Reefer Specialists on “How We Keep Your Cargo Safe — From Terminal to Vessel.” Topics ranged from reefer cargo handling guidelines for various commodities, cargo arrangement and airflow management, common cold chain handling mistakes, proper export reefer stuffing processes, to routine reefer monitoring practices. Following the discussion, participants were invited for a port tour of NPCT1 terminal area, including a closer look at its reefer facilities and daily operational environment, reinforcing a shared commitment between NPCT1, Maersk, and industry players to strengthen cold chain reliability and explore opportunities across Indonesia’s and the global logistics ecosystem.
